Who it is for

  • Developers preparing for the AWS Developer – Associate Certification (DVA-C02).
  • Practitioners who need practice developing, testing, deploying, and debugging AWS Cloud-based applications.

What this exam covers

  • Development with AWS Services — 32%
  • Security — 26%
  • Deployment — 24%
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization — 18%

What you will practice

  • Develop application and AWS Lambda code, call AWS APIs and SDKs, and use Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon S3, and messaging services for AWS-hosted applications.
  • Implement Amazon Cognito and IAM authentication, encrypt data with AWS KMS, and manage secrets with AWS Secrets Manager.
  • Package artifacts, test with AWS SAM and Amazon API Gateway stages, and deploy with AWS CodePipeline, AWS CloudFormation, and blue/green, canary, or rolling strategies.
  • Debug with Amazon CloudWatch and AWS X-Ray, instrument logs and traces, and optimize concurrency, memory, and caching.

About this practice exam

The AWS Developer – Associate Certification exam tests a candidate’s ability to demonstrate proficiency in developing, testing, deploying, and debugging AWS Cloud-based applications: develop and optimize applications on AWS, package and deploy by using continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows, secure application code and data, and identify and resolve application issues. This practice exam prepares you for AWS Certified Developer – Associate (DVA-C02) across Development with AWS Services, Security, Deployment, and Troubleshooting and Optimization.

The exam emphasizes writing code for applications hosted on AWS, configuring AWS Lambda, using data stores in application development, implementing authentication and authorization, encrypting data, managing sensitive data in application code, preparing artifacts, testing in development environments, automating deployment testing, deploying with AWS CI/CD services, assisting in root cause analysis, instrumenting code for observability, and optimizing applications. It does not primarily assess designing architectures such as distributed systems, microservices, or database schemas; designing and creating CI/CD pipelines; administering IAM users and groups; administering servers and operating systems; or designing AWS networking infrastructure such as Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) or AWS Direct Connect.

The official AWS Certified Developer – Associate (DVA-C02) exam is 65 questions in 130 minutes. This practice exam follows the four official Developer – Associate domains and their published weights.

The certification validates understanding of:

  • Development with AWS Services: code for applications hosted on AWS including event-driven and loosely coupled patterns, APIs with Amazon API Gateway, messaging with Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS) and Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS), orchestration with AWS Step Functions and Amazon EventBridge, and assistance with Amazon Q Developer; AWS Lambda configuration including environment variables, concurrency, timeout, destinations, and dead-letter queues; and data stores including Amazon DynamoDB keys and indexing, Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), Amazon Aurora, Amazon ElastiCache, Amazon S3, and Amazon OpenSearch Service.
  • Security: authentication and authorization with Amazon Cognito, AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), and AWS Security Token Service (AWS STS); encryption at rest and in transit with AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) and AWS Private Certificate Authority (AWS Private CA); and sensitive data in application code with AWS Secrets Manager, encrypted environment variables, and data classification including personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Deployment: application artifacts and environment configuration with AWS AppConfig; testing in development environments with Amazon API Gateway stages and AWS Serverless Application Model (AWS SAM); infrastructure as code with AWS CloudFormation, AWS SAM, and AWS Cloud Development Kit (AWS CDK); and CI/CD with AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeBuild, AWS CodeDeploy, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, AWS Amplify, and deployment strategies including blue/green, canary, and rolling.
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization: root cause analysis with Amazon CloudWatch logs, metrics, and dashboards, AWS X-Ray traces, and AWS CloudTrail; instrumentation including structured logging, custom metrics with Amazon CloudWatch embedded metric format (EMF), and tracing annotations; and optimization including concurrency, application-level caching, Amazon CloudFront cache behavior, and profiling application performance.
