Exam Preparation Tips

Good preparation is not only about memorising answers. Build a repeatable study routine, learn from every attempt, and practise under realistic conditions.

5 practical tipsExam + Practice modesBuilt for steady progress
01

Know the target

Understand the exam format

Check the official exam guide for question types, time limits, and passing score. Then use Exam mode under similar conditions.

02

Build consistency

Study in blocks with Practice mode

Short, regular study sessions often work better than one long session before the exam. Use Practice mode to check answers as you go, then finish the attempt when you are done. Leaving before you submit starts over next time.

03

Learn from feedback

Review every mistake

After each attempt, read the explanations and the domain breakdown. Note topics where you lose points. From the results you can retry incorrect questions or practice weak domains. If a question or explanation looks wrong, use Report a problem so we can check it. Flag for review is only for questions you want to return to in the same attempt.

04

Rehearse the real thing

Simulate exam day in Exam mode

Turn off distractions, start a timed Exam attempt, and complete it in one sitting when possible. Use a final simulation question set when you are logged in and want a full-length run.

05

Fill the gaps

Combine practice with official resources

Use vendor documentation, courses, and labs together with practice tests. Practice exams show gaps; official materials help you fill them.

Vendor sitting

What the real certification sitting is like

testimea is not the official exam. The panels below describe how vendors typically deliver the real sitting (online proctor, test center, or open book). Rules can change — always confirm on the vendor handbook.

Linux Foundation / CNCF associate exams

Linux Foundation / CNCF associate exams are taken online with a live PSI proctor. There is no test-center option.

  • Official time
    90 minutes
  1. Schedule online with PSI. You sit the exam from a private room, not a test center.
  2. Use one monitor, a clear desk, and a quiet closed room. No one else may be in the room.
  3. Check in with a government ID and a selfie, then pan the room with your webcam.
  4. PSI Secure Browser stays open. A proctor watches your webcam, microphone, and screen.
  5. The exam is multiple choice (typically 90 minutes). Stay in the camera frame until you submit.

Not affiliated with the exam vendor. This is a short overview of typical delivery — check-in apps and camera rules can change. Confirm on the vendor handbook before you sit the exam. Overview as of September 2026.

GitHub certifications (Pearson VUE)

GitHub certifications are Microsoft exams delivered by Pearson VUE. You choose a test center or an online OnVUE session.

  1. When you book, pick a Pearson VUE test center or an online proctored session.
  2. At a center, staff run check-in. You do not need a home webcam.
  3. Online, use an enclosed room, one monitor, and the OnVUE secure browser.
  4. Check-in may use your phone for ID and room photos. Put the phone out of reach before the exam starts.
  5. Online sessions use one forward-facing webcam, a microphone, and screen monitoring until you finish.
