Who it is for

  • Solutions architects preparing for the AWS Solutions Architect – Associate Certification (SAA-C03).
  • Practitioners who need practice designing secure, resilient, high-performing, and cost-optimized AWS architectures.

What this exam covers

  • Design Secure Architectures — 30%
  • Design Resilient Architectures — 26%
  • Design High-Performing Architectures — 24%
  • Design Cost-Optimized Architectures — 20%

What you will practice

  • Design IAM access, VPC network controls, and data encryption with AWS KMS and ACM for secure AWS workloads.
  • Design loosely coupled, multi-tier, and serverless architectures and choose Availability Zone, failover, and disaster recovery strategies that meet RPO and RTO.
  • Select high-performing storage, compute, database, network, and data ingestion services that scale with demand.
  • Choose cost-optimized storage tiers, compute purchasing options, database services, and network paths for a workload.

About this practice exam

The AWS Solutions Architect – Associate Certification exam tests a candidate’s ability to design solutions based on the AWS Well-Architected Framework: solutions that incorporate AWS services for current and future needs, architectures that are secure, resilient, high-performing, and cost-optimized, and reviews of existing solutions for improvements. This practice exam prepares you for AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03) across Design Secure Architectures, Design Resilient Architectures, Design High-Performing Architectures, and Design Cost-Optimized Architectures.

The exam emphasizes designing secure access to AWS resources, secure workloads and applications, data security controls, scalable and loosely coupled architectures, highly available and fault-tolerant designs, high-performing storage, compute, database, network, and data ingestion solutions, and cost-optimized storage, compute, database, and network architectures. It does not primarily assess AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional depth, hands-on application coding, or out-of-scope categories such as Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, or quantum technologies.

The official AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03) exam is 65 questions in 130 minutes. This practice exam follows the four official Solutions Architect – Associate domains and their published weights.

The certification validates understanding of:

  • Design Secure Architectures: secure access to AWS resources including AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS IAM Identity Center, least privilege, and the AWS shared responsibility model; secure workloads and applications including Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) security groups, network access control lists (ACLs), AWS WAF, and AWS Shield; and data security controls including encryption with AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) and AWS Certificate Manager (ACM).
  • Design Resilient Architectures: scalable and loosely coupled architectures including Amazon API Gateway, Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS), serverless with AWS Lambda and AWS Fargate, and containers with Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS); and highly available and fault-tolerant designs including Availability Zones, disaster recovery strategies, recovery point objective (RPO), and recovery time objective (RTO).
  • Design High-Performing Architectures: high-performing storage with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS), and Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS); elastic compute with Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling and AWS Lambda; databases with Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon ElastiCache; networks with Amazon CloudFront, AWS Global Accelerator, and Application Load Balancer; and data ingestion and transformation with Amazon Kinesis, AWS Glue, and Amazon Athena.
  • Design Cost-Optimized Architectures: cost-optimized storage tiering and lifecycles, compute purchasing options including Spot Instances, Reserved Instances, and Savings Plans, cost-effective database services, and cost-optimized networking including NAT gateways, AWS Transit Gateway, and VPC peering.
