About this practice exam

The CompTIA Linux+ Certification exam tests the knowledge and skills required to configure, manage, operate, and troubleshoot Linux server environments while using security best practices, scripting, containerization, virtualization, and automation. This practice exam prepares you for CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-006) across system management, services and user management, security, automation, orchestration, and scripting, and troubleshooting.

The exam emphasizes practical skills for managing Linux systems, storage, networks, and services in cloud and hybrid environments; applying permissions, authentication, firewalls, and system hardening; automating administration with shell scripting, Python, and configuration management; deploying and monitoring containers and virtual machines; and troubleshooting system, network, security, and performance issues. It does not primarily assess Linux kernel development, expert-level Kubernetes cluster administration, or application software engineering beyond shell and Python scripting for administration.

The official CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-006) exam is a maximum of 90 questions in 90 minutes. This practice exam follows the five official Linux+ domains and their published weights.

The certification validates understanding of:

  • System Management: boot process, kernel, Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), device and storage management including Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID), network configuration with NetworkManager and Netplan, shell operations, backup and restore, and virtualization with Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) and Quick Emulator (QEMU).
  • Services and User Management: files and directories, local account management, process and job control, software and repository management, systemd units, logs, and timers, and container runtimes including Podman, containerd, and Docker.
  • Security: Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Kerberos, and auditing; firewalls with firewalld, nftables, iptables, and Uncomplicated Firewall (ufw); operating system hardening including sudo, permissions, Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux), and Secure Shell (SSH); account security and multifactor authentication (MFA); cryptography; and compliance with Open Security Content Automation Protocol (OpenSCAP) and Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmarks.
  • Automation, Orchestration, and Scripting: infrastructure as code with Ansible, Puppet, and OpenTofu; unattended deployment with Kickstart and cloud-init; continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD); orchestration with Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, and Compose; shell scripting; Python basics for administration; Git version control; and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) for administration tasks.
  • Troubleshooting: system monitoring and alerting; hardware, storage, and operating system faults; networking including firewall, routing, Domain Name System (DNS), and connectivity; security issues such as SELinux, permissions, and certificates; and performance analysis of CPU, memory, and input/output (I/O).
