About this practice exam
The CompTIA Server+ Certification exam tests the knowledge and skills required to install, configure, and manage server hardware and server operating systems, implement server hardening and security controls, troubleshoot common server problems, and apply disaster recovery, high-availability, and backup concepts. This practice exam prepares you for CompTIA Server+ (SK0-005) across server hardware installation and management, server administration, security and disaster recovery, and troubleshooting.
The exam emphasizes practical skills for installing physical hardware, deploying storage including Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID), administering server operating systems and network services, operating high availability and virtualization, applying identity, hardening, backup, and disaster recovery controls, and diagnosing hardware, storage, software, network, and security faults. It does not primarily assess application software engineering beyond basic server administration scripting, expert-level network engineering beyond server connectivity services, or vendor-specific implementation of a single cloud platform.
The official CompTIA Server+ (SK0-005) exam is a maximum of 90 questions in 90 minutes. This practice exam follows the four official Server+ domains and their published weights.
The certification validates understanding of:
- Server Hardware Installation and Management: racking, power and network cabling including power distribution unit (PDU) and uninterruptible power supply (UPS), chassis and components, RAID levels including just a bunch of disks (JBOD), media and interfaces including serial attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial ATA (SATA), shared storage with network attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN) including Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), and hardware maintenance with out-of-band management, hot-swappable components, and Basic Input/Output System (BIOS)/Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).
- Server Administration: operating system installation including GUID Partition Table (GPT) and master boot record (MBR); file systems such as ext4, New Technology File System (NTFS), VMware File System (VMFS), Resilient File System (ReFS), and Z File System (ZFS); network services including Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and virtual local area network (VLAN); server roles and monitoring; high availability; virtualization and cloud models; scripting basics; asset management; documentation; and licensing.
- Security and Disaster Recovery: data security including encryption at rest and in transit; physical security and environmental controls; identity and access management including multifactor authentication (MFA) and single sign-on (SSO); mitigation with data loss prevention (DLP) and security information and event management (SIEM); server hardening; decommissioning; backups and restores; and disaster recovery sites and replication.
- Troubleshooting: a documented troubleshooting methodology; hardware failures; storage problems; operating system and software issues; network connectivity; and security problems including Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) and User Account Control (UAC).
