Exam Dumps Can Cost You Your Certification. Here’s What AWS, CompTIA, Microsoft and Cisco Say
Sites selling the “actual questions” for your exam look like a shortcut. They’re a quick way to lose the certification you’re studying for, and the ones you already hold. Here’s what the vendors say, how to spot a dump, and what to use instead.

What an exam dump is
A dump is a set of real exam questions that someone memorized or leaked after taking the test. Reworded live questions count too: CompTIA covers content that is “exactly the same or substantially similar” to its exam questions. Every major vendor treats using them as cheating.
What can happen to you
- AWS: results cancelled, certifications revoked (specific or all) and program participation suspended “temporarily or indefinitely.” AWS says accessing dumps “even unintentionally” breaks its agreement. (AWS policies, AWS blog)
- CompTIA: a ban of at least 12 months, lost certification and invalidated scores, “even if the candidate did not have fraudulent intentions.” (CompTIA policy)
- Microsoft: a possible permanent ban from future exams and revoked certifications. Its FAQ is blunt: “we decertify cheaters, remove their certifications, and ban them from taking future exams.” (Microsoft policy, Microsoft FAQ)
- Cisco: up to “a lifetime ban on all future exams and the nullification of all previous certifications.” (Cisco policies)
You don’t have to be caught in the exam room. AWS uses data forensics, and CompTIA and Microsoft list “misconduct as determined by statistical analysis” in their agreements.
How to spot a dump site
- “Real exam questions”, “actual questions” or “latest verified questions”
- A 100% pass guarantee or money back if you fail
- “These came up on my exam yesterday”
- A PDF or simulator file for a current exam code, “updated weekly”
- Answers with no explanations, or comment threads arguing about which answer is right
Why they fail you anyway
- Many answers are wrong. They’re rebuilt from memory, often by people who failed.
- Question pools change. Exposed questions get retired and exams get new versions, like SAP-C03 this month.
- The job checks what you know. A memorized answer letter won’t get you through an interview or an outage.
What to do instead
Start with the official exam guide, use the vendor’s training such as AWS Skill Builder or Microsoft Learn, and do hands-on labs. Then test yourself with original practice questions that explain each answer.
That’s what Testimea’s practice exams are: original exam-style questions written to the official objectives, with an explanation for every answer. Try the free sample quiz, or start with our Security+ guide or AWS Cloud Practitioner guide.
FAQ
What if I used a dump without knowing?
CompTIA applies its penalties regardless of intent and requires you to report exposure. Stop using it and contact the vendor.
Can they revoke certifications I already have?
Yes. AWS can revoke specific or all certifications, Microsoft can revoke credentials, and Cisco can nullify all previous ones.
Are practice exams the same as dumps?
No. Practice exams are written from the published objectives. If a seller says its questions are the real ones, it’s a dump.
