Security+ Practice Exam Updated for SY0-801 (V8)
Our CompTIA Security+ practice exam is now rebuilt for SY0-801 (Security+ V8). CompTIA’s English V8 exam launches on or around 17 November 2026, and the practice bank now follows that blueprint – not the older SY0-701 objectives. If you’ve been waiting for V8-aligned practice, this is it.

What CompTIA published for SY0-801
I pulled the facts straight from CompTIA’s Security+ V8 page and the Exam Objectives Document Version 2.0. The format hasn’t changed in the usual ways that trip people up:
- Maximum of 90 questions (multiple-choice and performance-based)
- 90 minutes
- Passing score 750 on a 100-900 scale
- English at launch
SY0-701 English stays open until 11 June 2027, so there’s an overlap window. Other SY0-701 languages retire later. Passing either version still earns Security+; the credential doesn’t vanish when an exam code retires.
V8 domain weights
| Domain | Weight |
|---|---|
| General Security Concepts | 16% |
| Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Attacks | 24% |
| Security Architecture | 19% |
| Security Operations | 27% |
| Security Program Management and Oversight | 14% |
Security Operations is still the biggest slice. Versus V7, General Security Concepts went up, Program Oversight went down, and the threats domain now explicitly covers AI-related risks – models, prompts, privacy, and data exposure. For the full side-by-side with SY0-701, see our longer guide: Security+ SY0-801 vs SY0-701.
How I’d use the updated practice set
If your test date is after mid-November 2026 – or you’re starting fresh and want the current blueprint – study against the V8 objectives PDF and drill Operations plus Threats first. If you’re already deep into SY0-701 materials and can sit before June 2027, finishing on V7 can still make sense. Don’t mix both objective documents week to week; pick one exam code and stick to it.
I treat practice scores by domain, not as one overall percentage. If Operations or Threats lag, I go back to those CompTIA objectives before another full timed run.
Run a timed attempt on the updated Security+ practice exam. The $1 trial is deducted when you upgrade, and every plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee. Or warm up with the sample exam quiz.
